5 Ways To Make Video Without Showing Your Face

Happy New Year! It’s officially January of 2022 and this year we are going to dive into all new types of content and the shifts that are going to be happening in marketing. I wanted to start the new year by acknowledging that it’s 100% okay to not always show your face in everything you’re doing. I know we’d like to show our face in order to stay “social,” on social media, but if you’re a business owner, running a busy business, it can be challenging. I know that for me personally, it can be challenging to show my face when I’m managing other client accounts, working on projects, and handling the daily operations within my own business. With that said, it’s still important to show up. That’s why today we are going to talk about some ways you can still show up in video, without having to always show your face. Let’s dive in!

Clip and Animate Your Images

If you’re a product based business, you’re already getting photos and graphics created for your feed, your store, your website, and all of your other marketing pieces. So, why not take those photos, clip them together in a video format, and share that on Reels. It’s equally as powerful, it still allows you to share your brand message, and it allows you to schedule content and be able to show up on your social media channels without the added pressure of having to record yourself.

Create Behind The Scenes Content

The majority of time, I’m showing up on my social media by clipping behind the scenes footage. Everyone is curious about what it is that you do, how you do it, and the full creation process, from start to finish. So, why not set up a tripod, get yourself a light, and record yourself working. You can clip it later if there are certain parts you don’t want to share, but you can also easily record the process of your work without needing to set up a fully staged video shoot. If you don’t want to show your face, you can set up your camera to focus on the product and record your process of working with/creating the product itself.

If you’re looking for a great app that will allow you to record behind the scenes content and then speed it up to showcase on your social media, I highly recommend Hyperlapse. If you read my previous blog on my favorite tools, you will notice that I included Hyperlapse as one of my favorite things to use in the studio.

I also love flip through graphics. You can use flip through graphics the same way you do on a post, in Reels. You can easily use flip through graphics for testimonials to highlight some of the positive feedback you receive from customers. You can also use them to showcase product reviews and give your audience some fun, engaging insight into what others have to say about your products.

Applying Products

Just showing the texture of your products can be a great way to engage with your audience. You can easily do this yourself. Get a fresh manicure and put on some lotion, and show how you’re applying the product, how the product might be worn, etc. If you don’t want to show your face, you can always crop or edit your videos before sharing them.

Stock Video

Maybe you’ve got a special discount or a limited offer and you want to share it with your audience. Stock video offers a great way to show up for your audience, without showing your face. You can use stock video to convey a specific message and capture your audience’s attention.

Stop Motion Graphics

Stop motion is great because it’s basically clipping together a bunch of photos. I specifically like the stop-motion build. I recently did this for one of my clients who owns a home decor and lifestyle product business. I used stop motion to arrange a living room set and then add in each piece of home decor to help showcase how this client’s products could be incorporated into interior design.

The most important thing to remember when creating video content, is keep it simple! A lot of us are still getting acquainted with video and learning how to best use video to connect with our audience. Sometimes keeping things simple is the best way to get comfortable with creating video and the best way to start showing up for your audience.

Top Video Tips for Each Social Media Platform

This week, let’s talk about the different platforms that are hosting video as their major form of content and what type of content is going to be best to use on each of these platforms.

Instagram

We all know that Instagram has shifted very heavily into video, but they are also making themselves “shop-friendly.” How do you find the right balance for what type of content is going to work best on instagram? Believe me when I tell you that I’ve tested it in many different ways, different formats, different times, etc. I’ve found that short content is best for Reels. That usually means that you want to have a video that is somewhere between 8 – 15 seconds long. Beyond that, you’ll begin to lose people, due to attention span and the need to continue to move-on, swipe up, and see what’s next. Short form video content will allow you to hold your audience’s attention and allow you to use a larger variety of audio clips (many audio clips were created before Reels were changed to allow up to 1 minute of video content). If you’re hoping to borrow and use some of the trending audio clips that are available, you’ll want to keep your video content shorter.

Instagram is also a great place to share information about your business, tips & tricks, and behind the scenes content. These types of video, along with hyperlapse videos of you performing business tasks, boxing, unboxing, mixing, making, cutting, etc., all tend to perform well on Instagram. By keeping these video clips short, you can capture your audience’s attention, engage with them, highlight specific elements of your business, and draw their attention back to your posts and account.

Pinterest

Pinterest has introduced video pins, idea pins, and a Reels-like format where you can watch all of those idea pins, row-after-row. The type of content that tends to perform well on Pinterest at the moment is informational content in the form of graphics. For example, posting 5 helpful tips and including 5 individual graphics, each highlighting a specific tip. Pinterest has set up idea pins to work similarly to stories, where you click through each graphic to engage with specific content. Pinterest is a great place for interactive information, tips, and how-to’s, and users are looking for this information in a visually appealing format. While video is working well on Pinterest, it’s beneficial to focus your video content on informational graphics, tips, tricks, and how-to’s when using Pinterest. What’s key in making sure that Pinterest starts to convert for you is utilizing the fact that it lets you tag your products and it allows you to add other stickers that let you link back to other products and affiliates.

TikTok

TikTok is still primarily an entertainment platform, but this just means that you can use it for your business, you will just need to use it differently than the way you use other platforms. With TikTok, everything needs to be short and focused around the quick how-to’s, the quick ootd’s of the day, what you’re wearing, where you got your outfit from, etc. As TikTok continues to evolve, they are adding features that are going to allow you to promote your products, tag your products, and other product-friendly features. If you’re a product-based business, planning to start implementing TikTok, jump in, but make sure you jump all the way in by creating content that has value and is going to grow on TikTok. If TikTok is something you want to pursue, it can be helpful to create a separate strategy, specifically for your TikTok content.

Facebook

Last, but not least, let’s talk about Facebook. Okay, you may be wondering, what about Facebook? Or, Facebook is changing to The Metaverse, so what does that mean for my strategy? We don’t entirely know what these Facebook changes might look like. We are getting bits and pieces of information, but we don’t yet have the full picture. As it stands right now, stories are still popping up on Facebook, but when it comes to video content on Facebook, long-form content tends to perform best. So, if you’re doing how-to’s, Lives, behind the scenes, etc. Currently, Facebook is the least video-friendly platform, but if you choose to repurpose YouTube videos, or work with long-form video content, it can be a good platform to consider.

This week, let’s talk about a few things you can do to keep up your momentum after the holiday season. It’s the time of year when we all spend a great deal of time going through the holiday rush, from Black Friday deals, to Cyber Monday specials and beyond! And yes, following the holiday rush, most of us are ready to take a deep breath and rest. But, it’s important not to lose momentum.

You put a lot of time and a lot of effort into building an audience, preparing your audience for your major sales, and continuing to expand your audience. There are a few important things you can do to help you keep up your momentum following the holiday season.

Add Customers Into a Nurture Sequence

Generally, most of us have shops set up and that shop is set up to say thanks for purchasing, here’s your product, here’s your shipping information, etc. But, following the initial message, or even the message confirming that the product was shipped/received, there may be no further communication. You may not have any more BIG sales until the new year or even the spring. Without communication during this time, you may lose the customers you had worked so hard to gain. To avoid this loss, I would recommend setting up an easy funnel that you can put customers into, to nurture them, get to know them, introduce them to your brand, talk to them about the products they purchased, and any other types of communication that will help keep your shop front of mind. This doesn’t mean that you need to send an email everyday, but having a few emails that can go out weekly can help keep your audience engaged with your brand. When you’re ready to run your next sale, you’ll have a better chance of seeing the same kind of success you saw during the holiday season.

Keep Up With Your Social Media Plan

Taking time to rest is important, but you don’t want to completely neglect your social presence and marketing efforts. You don’t need to be as active as you would be during your busy season, but you will want to continue to post to social media, share reels and videos, engage with your audience, and maintain relevance. It’s okay to scale back following the holidays, but it’s important to make sure you still show up for your audience/customers during this time.

Don’t Feel Like You Have To Do It All, But Don’t Drop Everything

Sometimes as business owners it’s easy to get freaked out when sales slow down. You may feel like you need to let everyone go, or cancel certain services/people that are helping you run your business. It’s okay to slow down a bit and scale back, but you don’t want to let go of all your team members and drop all of your marketing efforts. During this time, you can scale back, but make sure you keep team members who can help you clean things up, stay organized, and help you prepare for the new year. December is a great time to start planning for the new year. If you decide to scale back on your marketing efforts during December, you may want to work with your marketing manager or business manager to help you prepare for the new year.

Content Creation & Biz Tools I Can’t Live Without

Today, I want to talk about some of my favorite business tools for content creation, client management, and everything in-between. I think sometimes it can be helpful to understand how other people use certain tools in their business to make things more efficient and to help keep things organized. By looking at how others use specific systems and tools, you can gain a better understanding of what might work well for your own business. Let’s dive into some of my favorites!

Airtable

Airtable is my absolute favorite system. As soon as I got started with Airtable, almost 2 years ago, I was hooked. It’s my favorite tool for organizing, structuring, and planning. I personally love that Airtable offers a spreadsheet-like format with a variety of filters and sorting options that make grouping, organizing, and separating information easy and seamless.

I also use Airtable to keep my clients and their businesses organized, as well. Airtable allows me to intake their information through a form, and then I can take all of that information, divide it into spreadsheets and sections that work for me and my team, and delegate tasks to the appropriate team member (ex: copywriter can access the information they need to create relevant copy, graphic designer can see all of the specific information regarding the brand, etc.)

Airtable makes it easy for my entire team to see an overview of my specific brand information, along with an overview of each client’s unique brand information. This allows us to work effectively and create cohesive content that can be used to implement a successful marketing plan. If you’re dealing with a lot of data or information that needs to be organized, Airtable is a great option.

Hyperlapse

When it comes to content creation, Hyperlapse is my go-to. With TikTok and Reels taking over social media in the last year, Hyperlapse has become one of my favorite tools because it allows me to quickly record myself taking photos, running photoshoots, and managing different behind the scenes tasks. With Hyperlapse I can capture this kind of video content, save it, and then use it at a later time to create Reels. Hyperlapse makes it easy for me to set up my tripod, set up my phone, hit record, capture the content I want, and then go back and adjust it, or save the video for later use. If you’re creating a lot of video content (ex: behind the scenes, boxing, unboxing, etc.) I highly recommend checking out Hyperlapse.

Canva

If you’re not familiar with Canva, it is an excellent tool for creating graphics and content in a faster way than going through Photoshop. If you’re creating content and graphics quickly, or you’re turning out content on a more frequent basis, Canva can be a great tool. Canva allows you to upload high quality photos and videos, and then use them to create unique graphics. Canva also has a variety of Reels and video features that can be useful when working with video content.

Plann That

This is an online system that is coordinated and set up to allow you to push out your content.  Plann That stays on top of the latest content trends and was the first scheduling platform to add a Reels scheduling feature to help you stay on top of posting. I really like Plann That because of their visual setup. They offer a visual calendar that makes it easy to see the specific content and the specific day/time it is scheduled for. This platform also allows you to schedule Reels, which many other platforms do not offer at this time.

Flick

I love Flick because it is great for Hashtags. The majority of people have caught onto the fact that having 5 key hashtags for your brand, industry, or product/service is what’s trending. Flick allows you to research and see if you’re getting the right kind of hashtags. It also allows you to search specific hashtags and will automatically pull up additional hashtags that are related to the one you searched. Flick also helps you identify how often hashtags are being posted and whether or not a specific hashtag may help you expand your reach, or may hinder it.

Template Memberships

Sometimes going through and creating templates can be half the battle. Being part of a template membership makes it easy to grab templates that fit your unique brand or your unique style and input your own content. Template memberships also tend to offer new templates on a regular basis. This means you’ll have access to new, updated templates, rather than cycling through previous templates that your audience will have seen over and over. Template memberships will usually range from 15-50 dollars per month and provide you with access to all of their current templates, as well as new templates.

Stock Video

Stock video can help alleviate the need to create new video content on a regular basis. As we continue to see video become the primary form of content across platforms, it’s important to have some alternatives. We need video content that can easily share tips, or fill in when we don’t have the time to create something brand new. I love using stock video and I have my own stock video shop that I created because my business was growing and I needed to have some alternatives so I could show up and engage consistently.

Hey friend! Though most of us can easily create 30-60 second videos for social media, it’s important to look at what type of content is converting best and identify some of the best practices for creating video content. Today, let’s discuss 4 important tips for creating video content!

1. Short Form Video Performs Best

Even though we’re slowly moving toward the ability to create longer Reels (45-60 seconds), it’s the 15-30 second window that continues to work best. The reality is, we are consuming video content at an incredibly high rate. But, with the availability of video content across a variety of digital platforms and our short attention spans, shorter videos (15-30 seconds) continue to be the preferred form of video content. When creating your video content, it’s important to look at the content you are making and identify ways you can more quickly address the main points. Can you break down your main points? Can you create simple tips & tricks?

2. Create Something That Is Simple Enough To Be Sustainable

Many of us can bust out of the gate with a variety of cool ideas or creative concepts, but sometimes video can feel overwhelming. That’s why it’s important to establish a rhythm that feels sustainable. Maybe that means setting up your tripod and capturing behind-the-scenes footage, or creating some step-by-step content. It could also mean using stock video. Stock video is becoming incredibly popular across many platforms, like Canva where you can pop in, add a video, and create some fun movement that helps capture your audience’s attention.

3. Use In-App Audio Features

With the constant changes across social platforms, it’s incredibly important to download videos, with no audio, and then go into the app and use the in-app audio features. There are a lot of third party apps and places that you can go to, to get music. Using each platform’s in-app audio feature will help your video content perform better on each specific platform.

4. Establish A Plan

Put a plan in place so that you can easily sit down and batch as much video content as possible. Whether it’s choosing a specific day to capture various aspects of your process, or selecting specific stock video to use for sharing promotions, deals, or holiday specials, make sure you have an established plan.
