Let’s Talk About Scaling Your Biz!
“Scaling your business.” What does that even mean?
little while back, I mentioned the concept of scaling a business on Instagram, and my followers had so many questions.
A lot of people think of scaling as hiring actual employees, but really scaling is about finding whatever avenues will work to run your growing business faster and more efficiently, leaving you with the time to keep growing your business. Before founding Crystal Clear Creative Studios, I actually worked in HR for over a decade, recruiting and hiring for various types of businesses. They ranged from small, locally-owned companies to Fortune 500 companies and defense contractors, and I hired A LOT of people for them. So based on my corporate and entrepreneurial experience, here are my top 3 tips to make hiring and outsourcing a good experience so you can successfully scale your business. What Will Be Most Effective
First, you need to determine what will be most effective for you to outsource. These will usually be things that you’re either not very good at or are extremely time-consuming for you. Be honest with yourself as you evaluate. While you may have invested time and effort into learning how to do your own photography, it’s a good area to hand off to someone else if the concepts involved just aren’t clicking for you. And although you may enjoy doing your own graphics, if people aren’t very responsive to them and they’re taking up a significant chunk of your work week, you can give up that responsibility. Outsourcing these types of tasks will free up your time and energy to do what you ARE really good at and will move your business forward.Have a System in Place
You need to know what your process is and what your expectations are for the things you want to outsource. For instance, if you’re handing off your graphics and you have a certain way you want things done, get those guidelines in place first. The point is to make sure that the people you hire know what to do to help your business grow.Let Go of Control
It can be hard to let go of control over everything in your business. I am totally guilty of not always doing this well! But when you hand over something, you have to realize that that person is starting from ground level. There’s a learning curve, and they’re not likely to do everything perfectly the first time around. So give them some constructive feedback on what they could change. Sometimes I’ll even hop on a video call with somebody I’ve hired so I can actually SHOW them what I’d like to be different. Eventually, they can get to the point where they complete needed tasks the right way effortlessly. And you won’t be held back from business growth anymore by requiring yourself to do everything. If you’d like to get more in depth on the subject of scaling, check out the Creative Boss Method.
